Job summary

Ocean State Job Lot in Rhode Island is seeking a Sort Deck Operator for our 1.3 million square foot DC to ensure continuous conveyor operation and safety compliance. You will inspect equipment, address jams, and coordinate with the Conveyor Team to keep products moving efficiently.

The ideal candidate is bilingual, comfortable with walkie-talkies, and proficient in Google Workspace. This role emphasizes reliability, communication, and minimizing downtime in a fast-paced distribution center.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
• Ability to use a walkie-talkie.
• Some proficiency with Google platform (Sites, Sheets, Drive, Docs).

Responsibilities

• Perform regular inspections and coordinate with the Conveyor Team to keep the system operating.
• Identify stoppages visually and rectify them using the conveyor computer system.
• Inspect and adjust carton orientation as needed.
• Unclog jams and maintain smooth flow through the DC conveyor system.
• Monitor the re-circulation lane and route products to correct lanes.
• Vacuum, wash, or dust equipment and floors per safety guidelines.
• Ensure daily trash disposal and deck cleanliness.
• Sweep sort decks and collect fallen boxes.
• Pickup and repair damaged cartons and return them to the conveyor.
• Maintain accurate conveyor counts and issue logs.
• Communicate with departments via radio about freight issues.
• Suggest procedural improvements to the Conveyor Manager.
• Work to minimize downtime and maintain high productivity.
