Job summary

North Slope Borough School District is seeking a school counselor under the direction of the principal to support learning. The role focuses on implementing instructional strategies that address diverse student needs and nurture a culture conducive to achievement.

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s in Education with Alaska teaching certification; Master’s degree preferred. Experience in education and Inupiaq language/culture exposure are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education required; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Alaska Teacher Certificate required.
• Class C required.
• Three years of experience in education preferred.
• Inupiaq language/history/culture experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment.
• Employ assessment to identify student proficiency and plan programs using data.
• Foster harmonious relationships with students, parents, staff and community.
• Promote and support NSBSD goals as defined in the strategic plan.
• Participate in educational committees for professional growth.
• Develop culture-based instruction responding to diverse community needs.
• Use Rubicon Atlas to complete culture-based unit development.
• Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals as needed.
