Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in education required; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Alaska Teacher Certificate with Special Education endorsement required.
• Three years’ experience in education preferred.
• Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.
• Experience with students with intensive needs preferred.
• Experience with student’s visual impairment and braille preferred.

Responsabilités

• Strive for harmonious and cooperative interpersonal relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members.
• Promote and support School District Goals as developed by the Board of Education.
• Participate in educational committees and organizations for personal growth and growth of the profession.
• Develop awareness of local culture to provide bicultural or multicultural instruction.
• Maintain and update the special education program and student files; uphold confidentiality.
• Follow federal and state laws, regulations, referrals, testing, and IEP procedures.
• Complete paperwork in a web-based system under the Director of Student Services.
• Coordinate meetings for diagnostic tests, referrals, and behavioral incidents; share results with staff/parents.
• Plan and conduct ESER/IEP meetings for review of referrals and placement.
• Implement the IEP with regular education staff and paraprofessionals for inclusion.
• Collaborate with related service providers as needed.
• Supervise and train special education aides.
• Abide by ethics and professional teaching standards; adhere to district policies.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
