Job summary

Intersect is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to design and deliver utility-scale battery energy storage systems, integrating with generation and grid assets. You’ll work across concept through execution, supporting performance modeling and cross-functional collaboration.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and scalability, with opportunities to influence decarbonization outcomes and collaborate with OEMs, EPCs, and power producers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory); MS/PhD preferred.
• 3–7 years in energy storage or related fields; experience with independent power producers is a plus.
• Hands-on experience designing or supporting utility-scale energy storage or large-scale power systems.
• Strong understanding of grid integration and power systems engineering principles.
• Expertise in BESS sizing, system design, and performance modeling.
• Experience with medium-voltage infrastructure modeling and large-scale plant design.
• Familiarity with Li-ion chemistry for stationary applications (LFP).
• Knowledge of NEC/NFPA/IEEE electrical and safety standards.
• Experience with PSCAD, ETAP or similar tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; cross-functional collaboration.
• Established connections in the energy storage ecosystem help.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize energy storage systems.
• Lead a BESS project lifecycle from land acquisition to COD.
• Support technical negotiations with BESS OEMs, EPCs and subcontractors.
• Design and size utility-scale battery energy storage systems to meet performance targets.
• Develop and refine performance models to optimize system efficiency.
• Integrate storage with generation assets for grid compatibility.
• Build and validate medium-voltage infrastructure calculation tools.
• Support power plant design aligned with electrical and safety standards.
• Apply engineering best practices to ensure safe, scalable architectures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring projects to life.
• Contribute technical expertise to project lifecycle decisions.
• Help deliver reliable, high-performance storage solutions aligned with long-term infrastructure goals.
