Job summary

Unum in Chattanooga, TN is hiring a Benefit Specialist Trainee to learn how to resolve claims in line with Unum’s philosophies and procedures. Trainees receive a formal mentor for 12 months and are expected to manage an assigned caseload while developing independent judgment.

The role emphasizes delivering timely decisions, strong customer service, and building knowledge of Unum products, policies, and contract language, with on-site work and opportunities to advance within the company.

Qualifications

• College degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Excellent customer service, decision making, problem-solving experience.
• Able to analyze and evaluate claim information fairly.
• Detail oriented; able to analyze complex contractual information.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop skills to manage a caseload of complex claims with proper sign-offs.
• Understand Unum products, policies, contracts, and procedures.
• Provide timely claims decisions and exceptional customer service.
• Coordinate with teams to ensure fair, objective determinations.
• Maintain documentation and communicate determinations clearly.
