Job summary

Belmont Mansion at Belmont University is seeking a part-time, experienced pianist with a passion for history to perform on a restored 158-year-old piano in the 1860s Grand Salon. Performances run during regular visitor hours, offering a unique chance to bring mid-19th century music to life.

Ideal candidates will sight-read, learn the instrument, and convey its history to the public with strong public speaking and customer service skills, in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate mastery of piano and ability to sight read music.

Responsibilities

• Perform 45-minute to 1-hour sets during regular visitor hours (Mon–Sat 10:00–16:00; Sun 11:00–16:00).
• Convey the history of the instrument and music to visitors using the provided script.
• Collaborate with Belmont Mansion staff to ensure a welcoming visitor experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Belmont Mansion is seeking a part-time, experienced, and accomplished pianist who enjoys history and historical instruments. Would you enjoy performing in a unique historical setting? Are you intrigued by the opportunity to play a 158-year-old piano in an 1860s era room? Do you wish to strengthen your public speaking skills? If so, we would love to talk with you.

An 1860s box grand piano was restored recently with the intent of allowing our visitors to experience mid-19th century music in the authentic period Grand Salon of Belmont Mansion. Forty-five-minute to one-hour performances would take place during regular visitor hours to the museum both during the week and weekends. (Mon - Sat: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; Sunday: 11:00 to 4:00).

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be able to climb stairs and have the ability to remain positive, respectful, and flexible in a fast-paced environment.

Required Education

Must be enrolled as a student at Belmont University. Must have training and performance experience as a pianist.
