Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) supervises program residents under the guidance of the Lead Behavioral Health Technician(s). The BHT acts as a role model for residents, demonstrating professional behaviors and engaging in positive interactions that align with WestCare's ethical standards. Essential job functions include:
Essential Job Functions
- Monitoring designated residents and reporting unusual changes;
- Facilitating mentoring, discipline, safety, and shift/overnight observation;
- Completing support documentation and providing information to third parties as required;
- Utilizing crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate situations and ensure safety;
- Implementing behavioral/level systems where applicable;
- Participating in 24/7 coverage with a flexible schedule, tracking hours, and arriving on time;
- Transporting residents to various appointments and activities;
- Monitoring resident whereabouts and ensuring proper authorization for leaving the property;
- Assisting with recreational activities and maintaining the facility's cleanliness and functionality;
- Managing medication procedures for residents;
- Documenting incidents accurately and timely using the designated system;
- Embracing and embodying the mission, vision, and principles of WestCare Foundation;
- Performing any other duties as assigned.
Certifications and Licenses
- Relevant certifications and/or licensure preferred; priority given to certified candidates;
- Active CPR certification preferred at hire;
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain WestCare vehicle insurance required.
Education
- Degree in Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred;
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience and Competencies
- Minimum one year of experience in a behavioral health setting or similar;
- Ability to analyze situations and respond appropriately;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Good judgment and discretion;

- Adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards;
- Flexibility in schedule and ability to work in a fast-paced environment;

Working Conditions
- Primarily in a residential treatment setting;
- Some outdoor activities and travel between locations;
- Prompt attendance required.
