Behavioral Health Technician - ED Safety Attendant, Full-time Variable

Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Technician performs routine patient care duties including observation, monitoring, and recording changes in patient condition, obtaining vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, providing emotional support under the supervision of a nurse, and facilitating groups. They assist with contraband searches and inventory of personal belongings, utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed, and help maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment. The technician serves as a resource for medical staff, nursing staff, security, and other Behavioral Health Technicians. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in psychology or social work preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistants accepted.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and certification within 30 days of employment.

Experience and Skills

• Two years of psychiatric experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work with children, adolescents, and adults with mental illness.
• Knowledge of age-specific considerations for the population served.
• Unrestricted NCI Certification upon completion of training.
• Basic computer skills required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work variable shifts including bending, standing, walking, turning, and lifting patients.
• Visual and auditory acuity for observation and documentation.
• Potential contact with blood or other infectious materials.
