Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Attendant to provide direct, non-clinical support for patients facing behavioral health challenges. The role works under the RN and collaborates with clinical staff to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment while respecting patient dignity.

The incumbent will perform observations, assist with daily activities, and participate in safety protocols, with shifts including 7:00am–7:30pm on weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• Must have ability to observe patients and report changes to clinicians.
• Ability to de-escalate situations using approved verbal techniques.
• Provide non-clinical support and daily living assistance with compassion.

Responsibilities

• Receive patient report before assuming observation duties.
• Conduct continuous or intermittent patient observation as assigned.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly.
• Monitor and document patient behavior, mood, and activity per protocols.
• Assist patients with daily activities such as hygiene, meals, and mobility.
• Engage with patients respectfully and provide therapeutic interaction.
• Maintain patient safety and follow de-escalation and safety procedures.
• Attend staff development and meetings as assigned.
