Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Attendant to provide non-clinical support to patients requiring observations at Rhode Island Hospital. This role works under the direction of the Registered Nurse to help maintain a safe, dignified, therapeutic environment and to engage patients in activities.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Previous direct patient care experience or completion of one (1) year of progressive education in a human services-related field.
• Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting and moving patients.

Responsibilities

• Observe patients as assigned and document behavior.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living as needed.
• Engage with patients through compassionate interaction and activities.
• De-escalate tense situations using approved verbal techniques for safety.
• Follow safety guidelines and maintain clean, orderly patient areas.
