Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Attendant to provide direct, non-clinical support for patients under observation. You will work with nursing and clinical staff to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, assist with activities of daily living, and de-escalate potentially challenging situations in a respectful, compassionate manner.

The role requires a high school diploma and prior experience in direct patient care or related education.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or its equivalent required.
• Experience in direct patient care and/or patient observations, or completion of one (1) year of progressive education in a human services-related field (e.g., psychology, nursing, social work, health sciences) is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, non-clinical support to patients under observation.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly.
• Monitor and document patient behavior and mood per protocol.
• Assist with daily activities such as hygiene, meals, and mobility.
• De-escalate tense situations using approved verbal techniques.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
