Job summary

Men's Health Foundation in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Behavioral Health Coordinator to support referrals, care continuity, and navigation of Behavioral Health services. This non-clinical role emphasizes confidentiality and HIPAA compliance while coordinating access to services.

The role entails coordinating referrals, following up with patients and providers, and providing administrative support to BH clinicians and leadership to reduce delays in care.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years in healthcare, behavioral health, patient access, referral coordination, or related patient-facing admin role; behavioral health experience preferred.
• Experience with patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance eligibility, referrals, and EHR/EMR systems preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, follow-through, and multi-priority management.
• Working knowledge of medical and behavioral health terminology, HIPAA privacy requirements, and handling of protected health information.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills, with professional and compassionate interaction.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary healthcare team and escalate patient needs appropriately.
• Maintain professionalism, discretion, boundaries, and composure supporting patients with behavioral health concerns.

Responsibilities

• Manage internal and external Behavioral Health referrals from receipt through completion.
• Maintain ongoing oversight of referral status and follow-up with patients, providers, and teams.
• Conduct patient outreach and non-clinical care coordination as directed by BH leadership.
• Assist patients navigating barriers to care and connect to organizational/community resources.
• Coordinate warm handoffs between patients, BH specialists, internal departments, and external providers.
• Escalate clinical questions or safety concerns to BH clinicians as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation of referrals and follow-up in the EHR.
• Provide administrative support to Behavioral Health clinicians and leadership.
• Facilitate patient access to BH services, including scheduling, eligibility verification, and intake documentation.
• Front-desk support for BH services as needed; maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of Behavioral Health and clinic operations.
