Job summary

Springfield Public Schools is seeking a Behavior Specialist for anticipated openings 2026-2027. The role involves coaching staff in implementing effective behavior management, PBIS, and data-driven strategies to support students with social-emotional challenges.

Position requires a Master’s degree and MA educator license; 5+ years in urban K-12 settings preferred. Collaboration with the Office of Exceptional Learning is essential.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Appropriate educator license (e.g., BiS/Guidance/BCBA) per MA standards.
  • Familiarization with PBIS preferred.
  • Experience providing social-emotional-behavioral support.
  • Teaching experience in special education and/or early childhood preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in pre-K–12; 3+ years urban setting.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the Bureau of Pupil Services with special education supervisors.
  • Provides coaching on effective behavior management and PBIS implementation.
  • Designs and helps implement pro-social behavior programs from data analysis.
  • Consults with staff to adapt instructional programs based on data.
  • Develops interventions to assist teachers with behavioral plans.
  • Contributes to social/emotional/behavioral curriculum compliant with MA standards.
  • Acts as an internal coach providing supports to students in general and special education.
