Job summary

Springfield Public Schools is seeking a Behavior Specialist to support students with social-emotional-behavioral needs. The role involves coaching staff in evidence-based behavior management, developing and implementing targeted interventions, and collaborating with special education supervisors to improve instructional programs.

The incumbent will contribute to district PBIS efforts, design supportive curricula, and serve as an internal coach for students across general and special education

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Appropriate content/program area educator license (e.g., Teacher of Students with Moderate/Severe Disabilities, Guidance and School Adjustment counselor, or BCBA).
  • Familiarity with PBIS preferred.
  • Experience and/or training in social-emotional-behavioral support for students with challenges.
  • Successful teaching experience in special education and/or early childhood preferred.
  • At least 5 years experience in pre-K to 12 school setting, at least 3 in urban setting.
  • Familiar with 603 CMR regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Works under the directions of the Bureau of Pupil Services in collaboration with the special education supervisors.
  • Provides technical assistance and coaching in effective behavior management, including PBIS implementation.
  • Designs and helps implement programs to promote pro-social behavior based on analysis of behavior variables.
  • Consults with staff to modify instructional programs based on observation data.
  • Develops and implements intervention strategies to assist teachers with behavioral plans.
  • Assists in developing social/emotional/behavioral curriculum for students in special education in line with MA Core Curriculum.
  • Acts as internal coach providing supports to students with challenging behaviors in general and special education.
