Job summary

Westfield Washington Schools seeks an Instructional Assistant - Behavior Intervention Specialist at Westfield Middle School to support students with behavioral challenges, under the guidance of a behavior consultant.

You will develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on FBAs, collect data, collaborate with teachers, and coach staff toward sustaining behavior strategies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
• Prior experience with children/adolescents, especially with behavioral challenges, strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, PBS, and basics of ABA.
• Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to collect and organize data accurately.
• Strong collaboration skills and teamwork.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support student success.
• Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) with fidelity across settings.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to ensure consistent plan implementation.
• Maintain proactive communication with the behavior consultant regarding student progress and program adjustments.
• Provide coaching and modeling to teachers on behavior management techniques.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and positive behavior supports as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all student information and records.
