Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to deliver compassionate bedside care and support to patients. Responsibilities include assisting with meals and hydration, promoting mobility, and helping with baths and linens to ensure comfort and dignity at all times.

The PCA will support the bedside RN by taking vital signs, reporting any abnormalities, and maintaining safety through use of gait belts and alarms.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA, or completion during PCA education program.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate patient care.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards for patient care activities.
• Proficient interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage high workload and maintain focus amid interruptions.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive movements.
• Ability to read and perform basic math.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks and assist with meal ordering and feeding as needed.
• Encourage walking and mobility to promote recovery.
• Assist with baths, linen changes, and gown changes.
• Support bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities.
• Maintain patient safety with gait belts and alarms and stay within arm's reach.
