Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide compassionate bedside care, assisting with meals, walking, baths, and clean linens. You will support the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and communicating any changes promptly.

You must follow infection control principles and safety measures such as gait belts and alarms, maintaining focus in a fast-paced hospital setting to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress and manage interruptions.
• Ability to read and perform basic math and organize tasks with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with infection control principles and safe patient handling.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with meals, drinking, and meal ordering.
• Encourage walking and participate in activities to promote mobility.
• Assist with baths, grooming, and providing clean linens and gowns.
• Provide clinical assistance to bedside RN by obtaining vitals and reporting changes.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts and alarms and stay within arm's reach.
• Communicate patient needs and changes to the RN or charge nurse promptly.
