Job summary

The Rooftop at The Vendue, Charleston, operated by Avocet Hospitality Group, is seeking a Barback to support bartenders and servers in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and 1+ years in food and beverage. Expect to stand for long periods, work a flexible schedule, and contribute to a high-energy team with tips-based pay plus benefits.

Responsibilities

• Keep the bar area stocked with ice, juice, liquor, beer and wine; prepare garnishes and set out glassware.
• Maintain cleanliness by clearing dirty glasses, wiping counters, polishing glassware, bussing tables and organizing storage areas.
• Assist with running food as necessary and support Bartenders and Servers as needed.
• Other tasks may be assigned by The Rooftop General Manager or managers.

Hourly Pay:

• $11.50 per hour plus generous tips. Average $18-22 per hour with tips.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Rooftop is seeking highly motivated, energetic Barbacks with a desire to assist our Bartenders in creating memorable experiences for our guests.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Keeping the bar area loaded by stocking ice, juice, liquor, beer, and wine; cutting fruit and garnishes for drinks; and bringing out clean glassware
• Ensuring cleanliness by collecting dirty glasses, wiping down bar counter, polishing glassware, bussing tables, keeping storage areas clean and organized, and putting away product orders in designated areas
• Running food as necessary
• Assisting Bartenders primarily and Servers as necessary

Note that this is not an inclusive list and team members are at times asked to assist with other tasks to best serve the business. Other tasks may be assigned by The Rooftop General Manager or other managers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years of experience in food and beverage preferred

Skills:

• Commitment to guest satisfaction and service excellence.
• Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks. Ability to work under pressure, be calm, organized, self-motivated, and work well with others.
• Ability to read, speak and understand English in order to follow directions, and procedures, and communicate with the team.
• Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Equipment to Be Used:

• Dishwasher, Micros POS, Coffee Machine, CO2 Compressor, Soda Gun

Physical & Mental Requirements:

• Maintain regular and punctual on-site attendance with the ability to work a flexible schedule which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays when business requires
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Frequently required to use hands and arms to reach and handle. Frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Requires manual dexterity sufficient to handle equipment and utensils.
• Ability to transport up to 125 lbs. on a regular basis. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to adapt to an ever-changing and sometimes stressful work environment.
• High guest interaction, involving varying conditions and circumstances with guests, team members, and managers.
• Fast-paced; high volume; team-oriented.
• Outside with some covered areas in variable and changing weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
