Job summary

The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC is seeking a banquet server to provide guest-focused service with knowledge of food & beverage items and preparation methods. You will assist in set-up and maintain buffets and displays, while ensuring timely, courteous service during functions.

Pay range includes tips; starting at $7.50/hour with a service charge percentage. Candidates should be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and maintain a neat appearance.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years banquet or restaurant server experience in upscale settings preferred.
• Must be able to work flexible shift including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Report to work on time in a clean uniform.
• Assist in service and removal of food during banquet functions and communicate guest orders to the kitchen.
• Set up, maintain, inventory, and break down all beverage breaks and food buffets/displays.
• Set up linen, china, glass, silver for each function per banquet event order.
• Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to concerns and requests.
• Maintain back-of-house cleanliness and safety; ensure event components are set up on time.

Job description

The banquet server will serve the guests needs by providing exceptional knowledge of food & beverage menu items, as well as, information regarding preparation methods. They also assist in set-up of linen, china, glass, silver, and buffets/ food displays for each function in accordance with The Umstead Hotel standards.

Pay starts at $7.50/hour plus a percentage of the banquet service charge

The basic functions of this position is :

- Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed and in a clean uniform.

- Participates in the service and removal of food during banquet
functions by offering pre-determined menu selections to each table; maintaining
knowledge of each selection's, origin, taste, and preparation method;
communicating guest orders including any special needs or requests to the
kitchen; checking completed kitchen orders with the guest's original order;
transporting items to the guest table in a timely manner to ensure proper food
quality and making self available to guests, clients, and group contacts to
ensure satisfaction.

- Setting up, maintaining, inventorying and breaking down all beverage breaks and food buffets/ food displays

- Setting up of linen, china, glass, silver, for each function according to the banquet event order.

- Anticipate guest needs, ascertain satisfaction, and respond urgently and appropriately to guest concerns and requests.

- Being able to consistently perform tasks within a given time frame to insure all event components are setup on time.

- Being able to consistently perform tasks with little direct supervision.

- Maintain the back of the house cleanliness and safety

- Work harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors.

- In addition, other duties may be required as directed by your Manager.

Qualifications

- High School education or equivalent required

- 1-2 years banquet or restaurant server experience in an upscale hotel, restaurant, or country club. Previous four or five star banquet serving experience preferred.

- Must be able to work a flexible shift that includes nights, weekends and holidays

- Must be able to continuously stand/ walk a minimum of 8 hours

- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. over the course of a shift.

- Must be able to bend, kneel, push and pull over the course of a shift.

- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.

- All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Umstead Hotel standards.

- Will be occasionally required to perform job functions outdoors and be exposed to sun, heat, humidity and other element
