The Banquet Server represents one of the highest revenue-generating departments in the hotel and plays an essential role in delivering exceptional events and guest experiences. The ideal Banquet Server will have a charismatic personality, strong hospitality skills, and banquet or restaurant experience, with the ability to provide polished and attentive service while supporting all aspects of banquet operations.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Banquet Server is responsible for providing exceptional food and beverage service, maintaining an organized and professional work environment, and assisting with banquet setup, breakdown, and general event operations. The position requires flexibility, teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate the needs of guests and the operation.
WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Run food from the kitchen to the banquet event floor on demand.
- Set up tables, chairs, linens, place settings, and other banquet equipment as directed.
- Assist with food and table preparation before the event begins.
- Assist with the complete setup and breakdown of banquet rooms, including moving tables, chairs, stages, dance floors, buffet equipment, bars, and other event-related equipment.
- Demonstrate basic houseman knowledge and assist with general banquet houseman duties, including room resets, equipment movement, storage organization, and maintaining clean and orderly banquet areas.
- Follow banquet room diagrams, setup instructions, and event specifications to ensure rooms are properly arranged prior to guest arrival.
- Assist with room changes and resets during events as directed by the banquet supervisor or captain.
- Set up buffets with food presentation standards and practices in mind, ensuring safe food-handling procedures are followed.
- Serve all plated events to guests and respond to requests for beverages, appetizers, and other guest needs.
- Clear used dishes, glassware, and other service items between courses.
- Communicate effectively with the banquet supervisor/captain, other servers, kitchen staff, and event organizers.
- Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Open wine and take drink orders.
- Assist with bar setup, breakdown, and restocking as needed.
- Maintain table settings by removing courses as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, and remaining alert to guest spills or other special needs.
- Anticipate guest and event needs while actively monitoring the event floor.
- Assist with basic Audio/Visual (AV) setup and operation, including connecting cables, microphones, speakers, presentation equipment, screens, and other commonly used banquet AV equipment.
- Provide basic AV assistance during events and promptly communicate technical issues to the banquet supervisor or appropriate department.
- Assist with basic bartending duties when assigned, including bar setup and breakdown, beverage preparation, maintaining a clean bar area, and restocking beverage supplies.
- Assist other banquet team members and departments as needed to ensure a smooth and successful event.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of banquet service areas, storage areas, and equipment throughout the event and at the completion of the shift. Ensure all applicable food safety, EcoSure, Health Department, HACCP, and hotel sanitation standards are strictly adhered to.
- Be willing to perform duties outside of traditional serving responsibilities when business needs require, while maintaining a professional and service-oriented attitude.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma required or equivalent level of education.
- Maintain a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor at all times.
- Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by guests.
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced banquet environment.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Proven restaurant, banquet, hotel, or hospitality serving experience preferred.
- Previous banquet setup, breakdown, or houseman experience is highly preferred.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Patience and customer-oriented approach.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional attitude.
- Responsible, dependable, and trustworthy.
- Previous experience in a 4-Diamond-rated hotel is preferred.
- Previous bartending or beverage-service experience is a plus but is not required.
- Basic knowledge or previous experience with Audio/Visual equipment is a plus but is not required.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and assist with multiple areas of banquet operations as business demands require.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to tolerate temperature changes from hot to cold and cold to hot.
- Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally.
- Must be able to move tables and chairs throughout the shift.
- Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 40 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, and remain stationary at times throughout work periods.
- Heavy work – Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. of force.
- Light work – Frequently lift and move up to 10 lbs.
- Required to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to apply creative solutions to practical problems and situations where limited standardization exists.
- Ability to remain flexible in determining a variety of problem-solving approaches.
- Ability to maintain emotionally healthy composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
- Language: Required to speak, read, and write English, with fluency in other languages preferred.
- Availability: Must be able and flexible to work as required by business demands, most specifically days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must possess a valid Food Handler's Card as required by the County.
