Job summary

New Rising Sun Cafe & Bakery is seeking a reliable Bakery & Prep Cook Assistant in a hybrid role to support baking, prep work, cooking, and assembling orders. You will help maintain daily food production, keep prep areas sanitary, and assist with inventory and closing tasks.

The position requires early mornings (e.g., 3:00 AM – 11:00 AM), weekend availability, and a strong team-oriented work style. Prior bakery/kitchen experience is preferred; health and safety standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in bakery/kitchen prep settings preferred; training provided.
• ServSafe certification or basic food handling knowledge is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended shifts.
• Early morning and weekend availability required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in baking breads, pastries, and house specials following recipes.
• Prep produce, sauces, proteins, and baking ingredients for daily service.
• Maintain clean, sanitary prep stations, fridges, and storage areas.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently (mixers, ovens, food processor).
• Assist with deliveries, stocking inventory, dishwashing and other duties as needed.

Role Overview

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Bakery & Prep Cook Assistant to join the team at New Rising Sun Cafe & Bakery. In this hybrid role, you will assist with baking, prep work, cooking and assembling food orders, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring smooth daily food production.

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in baking fresh breads, pastries, and house specials following established recipes.
• Prep produce, sauces, proteins, and baking ingredients for daily service.
• Maintain clean, sanitary, and organized prep stations, fridges, and storage areas.
• Operate kitchen equipment (mixers, ovens, food processor, etc) safely and efficiently.
• Assist with receiving deliveries, stocking inventory, dishwashing and other assigned duties as needed.
• Adhere strictly to local health and food safety standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Prior experience in a bakery, kitchen, or food prep setting preferred (will train the right person).
• ServSafe certification or basic food handling knowledge a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended shifts.
• Strong communication, time management, and team-player mindset.
• Early morning (e.g., 3:00 AM – 11:00 AM) and weekend availability required.
• Practical experience in bakery operations, including Baking and general Bakery production.
• Strong Food Preparation skills with attention to consistency, portioning, and presentation.
• Experience working with Bread, including mixing, shaping, and baking sourdough or similar products.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and proper kitchen hygiene.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed for a cafe environment.
• Strong time management, teamwork, and communication skills in a fast-paced setting.
• Prior experience in a bakery, cafe, or restaurant kitchen is preferred; culinary or baking coursework is a plus.
