Job summary

Speechify is seeking a backend-focused engineer to design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, and the public TTS API. You will work across product, mobile, and web teams in a fully distributed environment.

Ideal candidates bring proven TS/Node experience, cloud platform knowledge (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure a plus), and a track record of shipping reliable systems. You’ll automate, improve reliability, and help scale an audio-first learning product.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node.
• Direct experience with GCP or similar cloud platforms.
• Habits of delegating work you previously owned.
• Daily workflow with AI agents and unattended tasks.
• Ability to verify results via logs, DB state, and actual requests.
• Judgment on features not to build, with clear rationale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
• Improve and refactor services to be faster, cheaper, and more reliable.
• Ensure correctness before shipping and implement post-release checks.
• Automate repetitive parts of your role to free up time for bigger impact.
• Document and share reusable work across the team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on Speechify.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web to keep backend architecture aligned with product direction.
