Job summary

Speechify is a distributed company focused on turning reading into accessible audio. We seek a senior backend engineer to own APIs for payments, auth, subscriptions, and the public TTS API, with a strong emphasis on reliability and scalability.

You’ll work across teams to ensure correctness, automate repetitive tasks, and design enterprise integrations. Ideal candidates have TS/Node expertise, cloud experience, and prefer high-availability deployments.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node (required).
• Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another cloud.
• A habit of giving away work you used to own.
• Daily setup with AI agents you can describe in detail — what runs unattended, what you review, and where you decided it shouldn’t act alone.
• The instinct to check results against the system itself — logs, db state, and actual requests.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumptiontracking, and our public TTS API.
• Take on services you didn’t write and make them faster, cheaper, and harder to break.
• Establish that a change is correct before it ships, and leave behind checks for correctness after you move on.
• Automate repetitive parts of your role to free time for bigger work.
• Turn work you’ve done once into work the whole team can repeat.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on top of us.
• Work with product, mobile, and web to keep backend architecture ahead of the product.
