Job description

Assistant Vice President, Catastrophe Modeling

Department: CAT Modeling

Company Information:

Acrisure Re is an independent global reinsurance broker with a reputation for placing reinsurance programs covering complex and technical books of business. Founded in Toronto more than 25 years ago we are one of the few reinsurance brokers that work on Global reinsurance placements.

We act as a team to deliver success to our clients and to enable talent to thrive and develop. Innovation and creativity help us stand apart and underpin our growth. We empower our people and expect accountability and responsibility in turn, with ethics a critical component of everything we do.

Acrisure Re is an Agency Partner of Acrisure LLC, a global fintech-leader. Acrisure has grown at a rapid rate in recent years and is now one of the 10 largest insurance brokers in the world, with ambitious plans to continue growing at an accelerated and unprecedented pace. Beyond growth, Acrisure’ s dedication to its highly unique business model, ownership structure and entrepreneurial culture, has put us on the envious path of being the largest, most successful privately held insurance brokerage in the industry.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President of Catastrophe Modeling to join our Catastrophe Modeling team. This individual will play a hands-on technical and client-facing role, delivering catastrophe risk analytics in support of reinsurance brokerage, client advisory, portfolio management, and strategic initiatives.

The Assistant Vice President will work closely with reinsurance brokers, clients, actuarial professionals, and other analytics specialists to develop catastrophe risk analyses, coordinate project delivery, and translate modeling results into clear business insights.

The successful candidate will combine strong catastrophe modeling expertise with a practical understanding of property insurance and reinsurance. This position requires an individual who can produce and review high-quality model results, explain key drivers and limitations, and connect the analysis to reinsurance and risk-management decisions. The Assistant Vice President will help coordinate assignments, support the development of junior catastrophe modeling staff, maintain strong analytical standards, and contribute to the continued development of Acrisure Re’s proprietary analytics capabilities and technology-enabled solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and coordinate catastrophe modeling and portfolio risk analyses across major natural catastrophe perils, including hurricane, earthquake, severe convective storm, wildfire, flood, and winter storm.
  • Run and review analyses using Moody's RMS, Verisk, and other third-party or proprietary models, applying appropriate assumptions, model settings, financial structures, and quality-control procedures.
  • Analyse and interpret key catastrophe risk metrics, including AAL, PML, EP curves, occurrence and aggregate losses, and return-period losses.
  • Conduct sensitivity testing, model comparisons, portfolio concentration analyses, and validation of catastrophe model results, escalating material issues as appropriate.
  • Partner with reinsurance brokers to evaluate catastrophe reinsurance structures, including attachment points, limits, expected recoveries, retained losses, and overall program efficiency.
  • Support clients in evaluating reinsurance purchasing strategies, portfolio optimization, underwriting decisions, risk tolerance, and capital allocation.
  • Participate in client meetings, renewal discussions, technical reviews, and presentations, with increasing responsibility for presenting analyses and recommendations.
  • Clearly communicate model assumptions, uncertainty, limitations, model changes, and key risk drivers to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support catastrophe event response by evaluating affected exposures, potential portfolio impacts, and reinsurance implications.
  • Coordinate project workflows, review analytical outputs, and provide day-to-day technical guidance and support to junior catastrophe modeling staff.
  • Work with broking, actuarial, technology, and data science teams to improve analytical tools, automation, dashboards, APIs, and proprietary catastrophe risk solutions.
  • Contribute to new business opportunities, client proposals, thought leadership, and initiatives that strengthen Acrisure Re's catastrophe analytics capabilities.

Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, geoscience, computer science, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of catastrophe modeling and analytics experience in an insurance, reinsurance, or related industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial catastrophe modeling platforms, preferably Moody's RMS and/or Verisk.
  • Strong understanding of catastrophe modeling concepts, including hazard, vulnerability, exposure, financial modeling, AAL, PML, EP curves, and event loss analysis.
  • Good understanding of property insurance and reinsurance structures and how catastrophe modeling supports reinsurance decision-making.
  • Experience analysing large and complex insurance portfolios and investigating unusual or unexpected modeling results.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical modeling results into clear business insights and recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, work effectively with brokers and clients, and provide guidance to junior modeling professionals.
  • Experience within a reinsurance brokerage, reinsurer, insurer, catastrophe model vendor, or insurance analytics organization.
  • Experience with model validation, sensitivity testing, and multi-model comparisons.
  • Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, GIS, or other analytical and geospatial tools.
  • Experience supporting, coaching, or informally mentoring junior catastrophe modeling professionals is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, developing reinsurance acumen, client service skills, communication, collaboration, analytical curiosity, accountability, and commitment to quality.
