Job summary

SiriusPoint in New York seeks a VP, Catastrophe Modeler to lead complex analyses, model portfolios and provide insights to brokers and clients. You will manage data for input into catastrophe models and pricing tools, ensuring data quality and timely reporting.

Reporting to the Head of Catastrophe Risk Pricing and Analytics, you will stay current with software updates, deliver risk analyses, and contribute to ad-hoc risk reporting for the global team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry with focus on modeling and portfolio management.
  • Strong data management skills and familiarity with exposure data formats.

Join Our Team

You will be an integral member of the property catastrophe team, as our VP, Catastrophe Modeler. An experienced professional, you will be responsible for performing complex analyses, modeling portfolios, and delivering insights to the team as well as working closely with brokers and others to gather and assess clients’ exposure data. Your strong technical skills will be extremely valuable as you perform account modeling through support databases and systems with responsibility for analysis and reporting of modeling information. Reporting to our Head of Catastrophe Risk Pricing and Analytics (based in US), you will interact with brokers and clients and attend various meetings.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Managing data for input into third party catastrophe models and pricing tools to ensure corporate modeling guidelines and best industry practices are followed.
  • Ensuring highest data quality standards are met by working with brokers, clients, and colleagues to understand and analyze exposures.
  • Evaluating data output to ensure timely and accurate results are produced.
  • Communicating with colleagues on status updates throughout the modeling process.
  • Preparing and delivering reports on risk measures and comparative analyses.
  • Maintaining portfolio accuracy, including reporting, analysis of risks, marginal impact analysis, and communication with senior underwriters.
  • Staying current with third party software updates/model changes and products to offer recommendations to senior management.
  • Considering ways to improve overall efficiency and accuracy of the modeling process.
  • Acting as the primary contact for catastrophe management activities.
  • Assisting the global team to establish regular and ad-hoc risk reporting, Bermuda Solvency Capital Requirements (BSCR) calculations and risk control.
  • Participating in special projects and research, as required.
  • Attending appropriate industry conferences
Your skills and abilities should include:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry with focus on modeling and portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the use of AIR, RMS, and SYFMOS property catastrophe risk management toolsets with the ability to learn analytical concepts quickly
  • BSCR knowledge/experience.
  • Robust data management skills with the ability to manipulate, interpret and extrapolate complex data and extensive knowledge of exposure data formats and tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail with financial aptitude.
  • Excellent software development and database management skills.
  • Understanding of modern portfolio theory and marginal pricing practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
