Qualifications

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Catastrophe Modeling to join our Catastrophe Modeling team. This individual will play a senior technical, leadership, and client-facing role, providing catastrophe risk analytics in support of reinsurance brokerage, client advisory, portfolio management, and strategic initiatives.

The Vice President will work closely with reinsurance brokers, clients, actuarial professionals, and other analytics specialists to develop sophisticated catastrophe risk analyses and translate modeling results into actionable business insights.

The successful candidate will combine strong catastrophe modeling expertise with a practical understanding of property insurance and reinsurance. This position requires an individual who can move beyond the production of model results to explain what the results mean, what is driving them, and how they should inform reinsurance and risk-management decisions. The Vice President will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to catastrophe modeling staff, maintain high standards of analytical quality, and contribute to the continued development of Acrisure Re's proprietary analytics capabilities and technology-enabled solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead catastrophe modeling and portfolio risk analyses across major natural catastrophe perils, including hurricane, earthquake, severe convective storm, wildfire, flood, and winter storm.
• Oversee modeling using Moody's RMS, Verisk, and other third-party or proprietary models, ensuring appropriate assumptions, model settings, financial structures, and quality control.
• Analyse and interpret key catastrophe risk metrics, including AAL, PML, EP curves, occurrence and aggregate losses, and return-period losses.
• Conduct sensitivity testing, model comparisons, portfolio concentration analyses, and validation of catastrophe model results.
• Partner with reinsurance brokers to evaluate catastrophe reinsurance structures, including attachment points, limits, expected recoveries, retained losses, and overall program efficiency.
• Support clients in evaluating reinsurance purchasing strategies, portfolio optimization, underwriting decisions, risk tolerance, and capital allocation.
• Serve as a senior catastrophe risk advisor in client meetings, renewal discussions, technical reviews, and executive presentations.
• Clearly communicate model assumptions, uncertainty, limitations, model changes, and key risk drivers to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Support catastrophe event response by evaluating affected exposures, potential portfolio impacts, and reinsurance implications.
• Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and mentorship to catastrophe modeling staff.
• Work with broking, actuarial, technology, and data science teams to enhance analytical tools, automation, dashboards, APIs, and proprietary catastrophe risk solutions.
• Support new business opportunities, client proposals, thought leadership, and strategic initiatives that strengthen Acrisure Re's catastrophe analytics capabilities.

Skills, Experience, and Education

• Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, geoscience, computer science, or a related quantitative field.
• 8+ years of catastrophe modeling, insurance analytics, reinsurance analytics, or related experience, including experience in a senior technical or leadership role.
• Strong working knowledge of commercial catastrophe modeling platforms, preferably Moody's RMS and/or Verisk.
• Strong understanding of catastrophe modeling concepts, including hazard, vulnerability, exposure, financial modeling, AAL, PML, EP curves, and event loss analysis.
• Great understanding of property insurance and reinsurance structures and how catastrophe modeling supports reinsurance decision-making.
• Experience analysing large and complex insurance portfolios and investigating unusual or unexpected modeling results.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to translate technical modeling results into clear business insights and recommendations.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, work effectively with brokers and clients, and provide technical guidance to other modeling professionals.
• Experience within a reinsurance brokerage, reinsurer, insurer, catastrophe model vendor, or insurance analytics organization.
• Experience with model validation, sensitivity testing, and multi-model comparisons.
• Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, GIS, or other analytical and geospatial tools.

• Experience managing or mentoring catastrophe modeling professionals.
• The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, reinsurance acumen, client advisory skills, leadership, communication, collaboration, analytical curiosity, and commitment to quality.
