Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a Systems Integration & Avionics Engineer to work at our Huntsville, AL campus. The role focuses on maintenance, integration, inspection, and troubleshooting of small airborne missiles, UAS, and payload effectors, spanning avionics, instrument systems, and related airborne electronics.

You will join a multidisciplinary rapid prototype team, support transition to production, provide training, and assist in field operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 6 years of related experience; Associate’s degree with 4 years; Bachelor’s degree with 2 years related experience.
• Experience in avionics/instrumentation maintenance, repair and integration; ideally on UAS or missile systems.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and installation drawings.
• Experience with UAS or missile launcher systems including maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with hand tools and electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, generators).
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Must be a US Citizen and eligible for a Secret Clearance; strong communication skills; travel readiness; schedule flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Design and integrate new avionics solutions as part of a multi-disciplinary prototype design team.
• Integrate avionics, sensors, or control systems into UAS platforms; perform installation, wiring, mounting, alignment, and checks.
• Inspect, service, maintenance, and calibration of avionics/instrument systems (navigation, comms, flight-control electronics).
• Troubleshoot discrepancies using manuals, schematics and test equipment.
• Maintain Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and support fielding and production transitions.
• Conduct post-integration testing and airworthiness checks; transition prototypes to production environments.
