Job summary

Ursa Major in Colorado is seeking an Avionics Manager to lead an integrated team focused on FPGA design and verification, firmware/software development, and avionics test engineering for advanced aerospace and defense systems.

You will own department schedule execution, staffing, and technical direction across FPGA architecture and automated test development, while coordinating with Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
• 10+ years in FPGA-based digital systems, embedded software, avionics, or automated test systems.
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience leading hardware/software development from concept to production.
• Strong FPGA, digital design, verification, and test systems knowledge.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• US Person with ITAR/EAR compliance eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Lead an integrated engineering organization for FPGA design, verification, firmware/software, and avionics test engineering.
• Manage development, integration, verification, qualification, and transition to production of avionics hardware and software.
• Ensure robust processes, design reviews, verification plans, and quality standards while meeting schedules.
• Provide technical leadership for FPGA architecture, verification strategy, test development, and system integration.
• Oversee staffing, hiring, mentoring, and development across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Develop department resource plans aligned with program priorities.
• Own department schedule execution, technical performance, and milestone achievement.
• Monitor program health and communicate risks to Avionics Director.
• Mitigate technical, schedule, and cost risks; drive cross-functional alignment.
• Foster collaboration across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Program Management.
