Job summary

General Motors is seeking an early career Software Engineer for AV Frameworks in Sunnyvale, CA. You will work across C++ systems, Linux, and networking/IPC to build high-performance, low-latency messaging and deterministic runtimes for AV/robotics software.

You will learn from senior engineers while contributing production-grade code, focusing on observability, reliability, and scalable interfaces for vehicle software platforms. Hybrid work setup with relocation support available.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in CS/EE/Robotics or related field.
• Strong background in modern C++ (20/23) and Python development.
• Strong grasp of concurrency, memory management, and performance profiling.
• Experience with IPC/messaging and distributed systems fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver core IPC and runtime building blocks used by AV/Robotics applications.
• Develop high-performance IPC/middleware primitives (publish/subscribe, shared memory).
• Build developer-facing APIs, tooling, and documentation for internal users.
• Contribute to observability, fault handling, and performance characteristics.
• Collaborate with platform OS, drivers, safety, controls, and tooling teams.
• Apply production rigor: testing strategies, reviews, and rollout discipline.
