Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Fullstack Engineer with a strong frontend focus to join the Mapping Engineering team. You will build web tools to visualize geospatial mapping data and support QA, debugging, and release workflows for autonomous driving.

Collaborate with backend, ML, localization, and perception teams to deliver scalable interfaces. The role emphasizes performance, accessibility, and data‑driven UI design, with hybrid work and opportunities to contribute to roadmap and hiring

Qualifications

5+ years of experience building production‑grade frontend applications.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
Proven experience shipping user‑facing products in high‑performance or data‑intensive environments.
Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React (or similar), and state management libraries (Redux, Zustand).
Deep understanding of frontend performance optimization, accessibility, and responsive design.
Experience with geospatial data, map rendering libraries (Mapbox GL, Deck.gl, OpenLayers), or data visualization (D3.js).
Familiarity with RESTful APIs, WebSockets, GraphQL.
BS, MS in Computer Science, HCI, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated success leading frontend initiatives and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Architect and implement frontend systems for AV mapping apps across web and embedded platforms.
Design intuitive, data‑rich UIs to visualize geospatial mapping data and support map editing, validation, and release workflows.
Collaborate with backend, simulation, localization, and perception teams to define robust data contracts.
Lead frontend development lifecycle for high‑impact projects, set milestones, align stakeholders, and mentor engineers.
Drive frontend engineering excellence through design reviews, UI/UX standards, and quality/testing/documentation.
Optimize rendering performance and real‑time updates for large map data.
Serve as SME in frontend architecture and visualization frameworks within Mapping and AV domains.
Contribute to roadmap planning and hiring strategies to grow frontend expertise.
