Job summary

General Motors is recruiting for an Staff Software Engineer in the AV HIL Software Platforms team. You will work at the intersection of AV software and hardware, developing scalable hardware-in-the-loop validation platforms for testing AV software before deployment.

You will collaborate across AV Infrastructure, Embodied AI, Model Deployment, Middleware, OS, and Vehicle Integration, leading architecture and delivering reliable platforms while mentoring engineers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience designing, developing, and delivering production-quality software systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; Master’s or PhD preferred.
• Expert software engineering and systems fundamentals, with strong coding ability in Python, C++, or comparable languages.
• Demonstrated ability to define and execute technical strategy for complex hardware-software systems with broad impact.
• Deep experience designing for scalability, performance, reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Experience developing and operating software in a Linux environment and across the full software lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of platform architecture, APIs, automation, CI/CD, test infra, and production operations.
• Proven ability to lead through influence and align multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive long-term technical strategy and roadmap for AV HIL software platforms across products.
• Lead design and evolution of scalable, reliable, hardware-aware HIL capabilities for AV software validation.
• Establish standards for platform services, APIs, testing, performance, and ops.
• Own complex technical problems spanning AV software, AI models, and hardware.
• Translate needs into measurable outcomes, platform requirements and delivery plans.
• Influence decisions across the AV organization and align with leaders and teams.
• Deliver reliable software with CI/CD, testing, observability, and release readiness.
• Mentor engineers and help shape hiring and talent development.
