Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead autonomy behavior validation efforts. You will set strategy for counterfactual simulations, transform incidents and simulations into auditable scenarios, and validate road-user models against benchmarks.

You will drive scalable pipelines, ensure reproducibility, and collaborate across Safety, Legal, Product, and Operations to produce credible evidence for engineering and release decisions.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in one of the listed fields.
• 10+ years of professional experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or related fields.
• Experience evaluating autonomous vehicles for a commercial fleet or high-consequence product decisions.
• Experience building counterfactual and replay simulation capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy and architecture for counterfactual behavior evaluation.
• Lead conversion of incidents and simulations into executable scenarios with provenance.
• Validate human and road-user models against benchmarks and requirements.
• Define scalable pipelines for parameter extraction, scene reconstruction, and analysis.
• Lead cross-team collaboration to turn results into engineering actions and safety evidence.
