Job summary

Daimler Truck North America seeks an Assembly Quality Engineer to support transmission assembly operations in Detroit. The role blends manufacturing collaboration with data-driven quality improvements, using SPC, FMEA, and CAPA to reduce defects and improve process reliability.

The ideal candidate will have a mechanical/industrial/manufacturing engineering background with 2–4 years of relevant experience, strong teamwork, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 2–4 years of professional engineering experience in quality/manufacturing/industrial engineering.
• Experience applying engineering and quality management methodologies in manufacturing.
• Proficiency with SPC, root cause analysis, process capability studies, control plans, corrective actions.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.
• Data-driven problem solving and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, evaluate, and maintain quality engineering systems, standards, and control plans for transmission assembly operations.
• Apply statistical methods to analyze processes, identify variation, and improve process capability and product quality.
• Design and optimize inspection and validation processes to meet specifications.
• Conduct root cause investigations using FMEA, 8D, Fishbone, and SPC.
• Perform quantitative analysis of manufacturing and product data to identify trends and risks.
• Develop and validate CAPA to eliminate defects and improve reliability.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Supplier Engineering on launches and changes.
• Prepare technical reports, process studies, and quality metrics.
• Support Lean, Six Sigma initiatives and cross-functional projects.
