Job summary

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) seeks an Automation Engineer to support automated material handling systems and drive reliability improvements across client sites. You will troubleshoot PLCs, robot controllers, and SCADA, while coordinating with operations and maintenance teams.

The role emphasizes safety, hands-on problem solving, and continuous improvement with exposure to conveyors, sortation systems, cameras, and networked controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• 2-5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Experience in at least two engineering design cycles including specification, component selection and programming.
• 2+ years of experience with PLC programs.
• 2+ years with robotics system components and controls.
• 2+ years with SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe working environment by complying with codes, regulations, and directives.
• Troubleshoot and modify software for material handling control systems (PLC/PC).
• Serve as first-level escalation for on-site and remote troubleshooting.
• Inspect systems to ensure operation meets design and client targets.
• Oversee development scope, work requests, scheduling and inspection of contractor work.
• Engineer process solutions and reliability improvements from concept to network implementation.
• Monitor Industrial networks (Ethernet, DeviceNet, Profibus, etc.).
• Monitor material handling equipment metrics and resolve electrical problems.
• Communicate with leadership, operations and maintenance on timelines and impacts.
• Analyze failures to implement improvements or retraining to avoid incidents.
• Perform system assessments to maintain equipment reliability.
