Job summary

Building Controls and Services, Inc. (BCS) in Lenexa, KS is seeking a Controls Engineer Intern to assist design, tracking, and installation of control systems. You will handle material ordering, database entry, programming, and troubleshooting while coordinating with the Controls Team Lead on assigned projects.

The role emphasizes HVAC/automation knowledge, on-site and office work, and developing submittals, RFIs, and drawings with a focus on detail and teamwork. Wage is $21–$23/hour, non-exempt.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of automation systems, HVAC and electrical concepts.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
• Proficient in AutoCAD drafting standards.
• Proficient with Windows OS in workstation/server applications.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Strong math skills and ability to interpret graphs.
• Strong problem solving and prioritization.
• Able to follow instructions and work in a team.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Develop project information and layouts to meet project intent.
• Generate RFIs during projects.
• Create submittal booklets from blueprints and specs.
• Prepare network layout overviews.
• Produce as-built drawings from field data.
• Assist with sales estimating and pricing.
• Assist with installation, startups, turnover.
• Provide technical support to customers and staff.
• Coordinate with Controls Team Lead on projects.
