Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to design basic to moderately complex instrumentation and control systems, including P&IDs and HMI/PLC work, on diverse projects. You will review drawings, mentor junior staff, and support proposals with a focus on automation strategy.

The role requires 5 years of related experience and a Bachelor’s Degree. Travel 20%–40% may be required; the position offers a hybrid work model to support field and office collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• 5 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency depends on duties and workload.

Responsibilities

• Creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D design practices; assists with specification development and HMI graphics, PLC programming and report development.
• Reviews basic to highly complex component-level shop drawings and contractor clarifications; assist with testing oversight.
• Develops P&IDs, control system architectures, specifications and control descriptions for programming.
• Leads staff and mentors junior staff; reviews their work as needed.
• Assists in preparing proposal sections and presentations; supports marketing and new business activities for Automation strategy; may participate in proposals.
• Performs other duties as required.
