Job summary

First Chicago Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Litigation Specialist to handle litigated and complex injury claims arising from Personal Auto and Commercial Auto Liability policies. The role involves coverage determinations, investigations, and coordination with defense counsel to manage cases.

Qualified candidates will have a college degree or 5+ years claims adjusting experience, strong legal/medical terminology knowledge, and excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Qualifications

• College degree and/or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations where required by state statutes to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims in accordance with established office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft any applicable reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct prompt investigations by securing statements and documents (police reports, medicals, photographs).
• Litigation management with defense counsel and experts on defense cases.
• Maintain a diary on all open files and manage reserves.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes and coverage forms to adjust and conclude claims.
• Evaluate use of experts and/or field investigators as needed.
• Maintain claim files and document activity per regulations and policies.
• Prepare and present claim evaluations to secure settlement authority.
