Job summary

Avalara is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to own the CMS template and component library, guardrails, and authoring workflows. You will partner with content, product, and engineering teams to ensure brand integrity, measurable content velocity, and AI-enabled governance across global locales.

You will define requirements, drive SEO and asset-management standards, and lead cross-functional initiatives to improve CMS usability and data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology per Avalara's standards.
• 7+ years in technical program or product management for a web content management or digital experience platform, including direct ownership of a template or component library at a senior level.
• Direct experience with enterprise content management systems or digital experience platforms including author-facing template and component design.
• Experience defining requirements and guardrails for SEO, tagging, and asset management within a content authoring environment.
• Demonstrated, quantifiable use of AI tools to improve platform governance, content operations, or author enablement.
• Track record of raising the performance of teams and processes, consistent with Bar Raiser expectations.

Responsibilities

• Own and govern the CMS template and component library, defining scope, limits, and supported features of each component so authors have a clear, sustainable toolkit to work within.
• Set the boundaries of design and feature influence on the platform, ensuring new functionality reinforces brand consistency and demonstrates ROI.
• Define what behavioral data must be captured across templates and components to drive understanding of visitor behavior.
• Act as the primary source of truth on platform capabilities and constraints for internal stakeholders, tailoring explanations for both content-management-fluent and non-technical audiences.
• Support teams working on internationalization and localization projects, guiding workflows for publishing content across geographies.
• Continuously improve the usability of the template and component library, lowering the learning curve for authors.
• Demonstrate platform functionality and design potential to stakeholders, translating technical capability into business opportunity.
• Identify shortcomings and translate them into prioritized requirements for CMS development.
• Define constraints and guardrails within the authoring environment to protect SEO, tagging, and asset management integrity.
• Define asset management standards and oversee implementation of metadata and retrieval practices.
• Use AI to accelerate and improve this work end-to-end, with emphasis on helping authors succeed without deep CMS knowledge.
• Share AI practices and tooling with peers to raise AI capability across the platform.
