Job summary

Schenectady City School District is seeking a Student Engagement & Attendance Specialist to reduce chronic absenteeism and boost student engagement. The role uses anti-racist and trauma-informed approaches to remove barriers to attendance and aligns district processes with MTSS for improved outcomes.

The position reports to the Assistant District of Student Engagement & School Attendance and requires evening availability and strong coordination with families, schools, and community partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent as specified.
• Two years of experience in a school environment and/or youth-focused community-based organization.
• High school diploma with four years of related experience.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A–C.

Responsibilities

• Promotes a district-wide approach to regular student attendance.
• Attends attendance meetings to identify follow-up and planning.
• Conducts home visits to follow up on chronically absent students and gain parental support.
• Identifies and implements family intervention strategies to improve attendance.
• Collaborates with staff to identify chronically absent students and implement attendance strategies.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of strategies to reduce chronic absenteeism.
• Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and MTSS trends in attendance and engagement.
• Identifies barriers to attendance early and provides appropriate support.
