Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks an Associate General Counsel, Employment Practices, to join the Legal Services team in Indianapolis. You will counsel HR and leadership on labor, employment and ERISA matters, and help manage risk across the organization.

The role emphasizes partnership with Benefits and HR, practical guidance, and the ability to translate complex law into actionable solutions for workforce programs and contracting needs.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree required from ABA-accredited law school.
• Active Indiana law license in good standing.
• 6–8 years of relevant labor, employment or ERISA experience.
• Substantive knowledge of ERISA-governed benefit plans and retirement programs.
• Knowledge of labor, employment and disability law.
• Experience in litigation or litigation management.
• Broad general background in business and civil law.
• Healthcare industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Counsel HR, Benefits and leadership on employee relations, disability matters and wage-hour issues.
• Advise on ERISA-governed benefit plans, retirement programs and health and welfare programs.
• Review employment-related agreements and HR/benefit contracts.
• Partner with HR, Benefits and operations to translate legal requirements into actionable guidance.
• Support litigation or litigation management as needed.
• Participate in weekly team meetings and broader Legal Department discussions.
• Help develop practical risk-mitigation strategies for the organization.
