Job summary

Butler University is seeking an Associate Director of Career Mentoring to lead the university-wide implementation of Career Mentoring for All, coordinating across colleges to provide students with meaningful mentoring. The role manages the mentor network, develops standards, and ensures a high-quality student experience aligned with career readiness goals.

The position requires leadership, program and project management skills, and a commitment to equitable student experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, organizational leadership, business or related field.
• Three to five years of progressive experience in career development, student success, higher education, mentoring, alumni engagement, workforce development, or related area.
• Experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff; building effective teams.
• Ability to build relationships, facilitate collaboration, and influence across organizational boundaries.
• Strong program and project management skills; translate strategic goals into sustainable practices.
• Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and interpersonal communication.
• Commitment to creating high-quality and equitable experiences for diverse students.

Responsibilities

• Lead university-wide implementation of Career Mentoring for All, establishing the framework, standards, milestones, and practices to provide students with mentoring.
• Supervise and develop the Career Mentor team, establishing clear expectations and sharing practices, coaching and professional development.
• Lead and convene the University and Career Mentoring Council; support College-Based Career Leads, providing tools and training.
• Design and strengthen the student career mentoring experience; ensure mentoring helps students develop readiness, networks, and professional identity.
• Connect career mentoring to advising and experiential learning opportunities to translate experiences into skills and career direction.
• Develop and sustain a robust network of career mentors with Alumni Relations, employers, and partners to recruit, prepare, engage, and retain mentors.
• Build infrastructure to deliver Career Mentoring for All at scale: preparation, matching, technology, resources, and operations.
• Assess effectiveness using data to identify gaps and improve programs and experiences.
• Foster a university-wide culture of career mentoring involving students, faculty, staff, alumni and external partners.
