Job summary

Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co. in California seeks an Associate Claims Specialist under direct supervision to develop skills in investigating, deciding liability, and negotiating settlements for mid-sized to large commercial accounts.

You will participate in training, mentoring, and on-the-job instruction while supporting policyholders with timely claim handling. Responsibilities include reviewing loss reports, establishing action plans, managing a mix of property/casualty and disability

Qualifications

• Effective interpersonal, analytical and negotiation abilities required.
• Ability to provide information clearly with appropriate detail.
• Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
• Professional environment success; customer service experience preferred.
• Analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions; typically via bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Knowledge of liability, insurance coverage and medical terminology helpful, but not mandatory.
• Licensing may be required in some states.

Responsibilities

• Investigates new claims by reviewing reports and supporting materials, gathers information from claimants and witnesses.
• Establishes action plans based on case facts, protocols and resources.
• Manages an inventory of property/casualty and disability claims and negotiates settlements within limits.
• Estimates loss costs using available resources and market protocols.
• Confirms or denies coverage based on investigation findings and advises policyholders.
• Uses loss management techniques and resources, updates files and generates reports.
