Job summary

kW Mission Critical Engineering, a WSP company, is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer for our Milwaukee, WI office. You will design complex cooling and HVAC systems for mission-critical facilities, including data centers, with emphasis on reliability and energy efficiency.

Ideal candidates have a mechanical engineering degree and 1–3 years of experience, strong collaboration skills, and proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and energy codes. Travel to client sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with mechanical building systems emphasis.
• 1–3 years of experience designing mechanical systems for high-performing commercial, industrial or mission-critical/data center buildings.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Trane Trace and Pipeflow.
• Knowledge of building, mechanical and energy codes.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project requirements; may extend beyond typical workweeks.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Responsibilities

• Independently support project teams during design and construction.
• Design air distribution, hydronic and automated temperature control systems.
• Integrate mechanical requirements into facility designs.
• Develop drawings and specifications for architects, contractors and owners.
• Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors.
• Explain mechanical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate disciplines (HVAC, energy, controls, plumbing).
• Review drawings prior to issuance and oversee mechanical design.
• Perform CFD evaluations for existing and new facilities.
• Survey existing conditions and develop project specifications.
