Job summary

Save the Children is seeking an Assistant Teacher in Indiana to support Head Start learning activities and ensure a safe, nurturing classroom. You will collaborate with the Head Start Teacher and families to implement daily plans, track progress, and support children's development through engaging activities and positive supervision.

Qualifications

• CDA or state credential meets/Exceeds CDA requirements or enrolled in CDA program to complete within two years of hire.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start program.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; ability to follow directions and take initiative.
• Ability to collaborate with staff, families and community partners in delivering high-quality services.
• Maintain confidentiality of all family information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online client management systems.
• Complete required professional development including first aid and pediatric CPR as required by state licensing and Head Start Performance Standards.

Responsibilities

• Engage with children during all activities and supervise to ensure a safe environment.
• Assist in planning and conducting activities with Head Start Teacher to meet individual needs of children.
• Guide classroom activities including projects and field trips.
• Maintain developmentally appropriate classroom management and interactions.
• Support a safe and engaging learning environment with one-on-one and small group interactions.
• Partner with parents and families and participate in conferences to discuss progress.
• Follow Head Start Program Performance Standards and school policies.
• Lead in the absence of a teacher and participate in staff meetings and training.
