The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Licensing Division is seeking a detail-oriented Clerical Associate to support licensing operations for a large portfolio of city businesses. The role emphasizes accuracy, timely processing, and excellent customer service in person and by phone.

As a Clerical Associate you’ll help assign tasks, monitor progress, document procedures, process applications, and coordinate with other city agencies to resolve licensing issues,

Qualifications

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization.
  • One year of satisfactory clerical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor in assigning tasks, monitoring progress, providing guidance, and ensuring timely completion of work.
  • Assist in identifying administrative and operational problems and providing recommendations for efficiency.
  • Under supervision, perform clerical work including complex data processing functions, recording, researching, checking and maintaining records and furnishing information to licensing applicants.
  • Assist in developing, documenting and implementing internal systems, policies, and procedures that help to organize and guide the division’s work and operations, document database issues, and improve overall performance.
  • Check records for accuracy of information and for conformity with established policy and procedures.
  • Monitor and provide coaching to other staff.
  • Perform ordinary mathematical computations while accepting and processing payments, completing close outs, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Provide high-volume customer service to licensing applicants in person and via phone.
  • Assist applicants with outreach to other city agencies, as well as interagency communication to help resolve issues pertaining to their license.
  • Assist with supervision for other units as directed.
  • Process applications in all DCWP categories as needed.
  • Answer telephone calls, emails and written correspondence and communicate applicant information.
  • Attend seminars, meetings and/or trainings.
  • Follow all division and agency policies and procedures;
  • Perform all relevant and related Licensing tasks as assigned when needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Licensing Division's Hotel Unit is seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven Assistant Supervisor to support licensing operations. The Assistant Supervisor serves a critical function, ensuring that applicants receive accurate, complete service so that their licenses can be issued without unnecessary delays or follow-up.
