Job summary

YMCA of Austin seeks an Assistant Site Lead to partner with the Site Lead in running a safe, engaging licensed afterschool program for ages 4-12 at elementary sites in Austin. This seasonal, part-time role supports daily operations, staff guidance, and youth experiences after school hours.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Availability to work Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM – 6:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends for events and trainings.
• Must meet Texas Child Care Licensing requirements: 30 hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership, or management (15 hours acceptable with remaining hours completed within 90 days).
• Minimum of 6 months of experience in a licensed childcare setting, or equivalent coursework in child development.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus; valid driver's license and ability to pass background check; First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Site Lead in managing daily program operations, ensuring a safe, organized, and engaging environment.
• Help guide Youth Development Leaders and foster a collaborative, growth-focused team culture.
• Step into full site leadership in the absence of the Site Lead, ensuring compliance and safety.
• Supervise 12–17 youth with appropriate staff-to-child ratios and active supervision.
• Deliver and support curriculum including enrichment activities, academic support, and physical activity.
• Build relationships with families, plan and host family nights and events.
• Occasional travel between sites and YMCA locations for supplies, meetings, trainings, and support.
• Adhere to Texas Child Care Licensing standards and YMCA policies; assist with attendance, incident reports, and records.
