Qualifications

• Demonstrated record of teaching, service, and scholarship in Rhetoric and Composition, interdisciplinary writing, and emerging technologies.
• Evidence of university-wide and professional networking
• Ability to analyze and employ various communication and teaching technologies.
• Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
• An eagerness to engage with faculty, staff and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience of students.

Responsibilities

• Teach 24 semester hours in lower division, upper division, and graduate-level English courses—including traditional composition, corequisite composition, and developmental reading and writing as needed by the department.
• Teach lower division and upper division courses in Rhetoric and Composition.
• Lead department efforts in fostering interdisciplinary relationships across campus and developing interdisciplinary curriculum for composition courses with a focus on emerging technologies.
• Engage in scholarship relevant to the position at a level appropriate to a teaching university (both scholarship of discovery and scholarship of pedagogy are valued at UT).
• Assist in curriculum creation in Rhetoric and Composition.
• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as assigned and attend departmental, college, and university meetings as required.
• Work with the department chair, the dean, and other faculty to advance the university’s mission, including:
• - Work constructively, collaboratively, and collegially with faculty and staff in the department and across campus.
• - Conduct student assessment.
• - Hold regular office hours.
• - Mentor part-time instructors.
• - Perform service for the college and university.
• - Participate in university and departmental student recruitment and retention initiatives.
• - Facilitate service learning and engagement with the community.

The Department of English at Utah Tech University (UT), in the picturesque red-rock southwestern city of St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of English, with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition and specializing in interdisciplinary writing, to begin July 1, 2027. We are particularly interested in candidates who draw upon their doctoral emphases to collaborate with disciplines across the university (specifically STEM, Business, Education, Health Sciences, and the Arts) in both lower-division composition courses and our upper-division course offerings. Furthermore, candidates will have an interest and/or expertise in emerging technologies, including AI and emergent multimodal software with a focus on professional development.

The English department offers associate and bachelor’s degrees in English with emphases in Creative Writing, English Education, Literary Studies, and Professional and Technical Writing, as well as minors in Creative Writing, English Education, General Education, and Professional and Technical Writing. The English Department also offers a Masters of Arts in Technical Writing and Digital Rhetoric. Utah Tech is an open-enrollment institution, and the English department provides the university with traditional General Education composition courses as well as corequisite and developmental reading and writing courses designed to help at-risk students succeed. POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2027. Annual salary of $60,000-$63,000,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
