  • Experience teaching college-level literacy courses and/or graduate courses preferred.
  • LETRS training preferred, or willingness to complete within 60 days of hire.
  • Minimum of five years of experience teaching students in grades K-6 preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively; finalists may demonstrate via teaching demonstration.
  • Demonstrated ability for creative, unique, and effective teacher education approaches.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral ability.
  • Good organizational and time management skills; proficient with technology and online instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teach specialized pedagogy classes in literacy, social studies methods, differentiation, multilingual learners, classroom assessment, curriculum and lesson planning.
  • Teach general pedagogy courses for the Elementary Education program.
  • Assist in developing new curricula and programs.
  • Assist in meeting national accreditation and USBE licensure competencies.
  • Collaborate with local school districts to align program outcomes with elementary teaching needs.
  • Supervise and mentor students in field experiences.
  • Fulfill faculty duties including office hours, advising, and committee service.
  • Provide institutional service per Regent and University policy.
  • Adhere to department, college, and university policies; perform other duties as assigned.

The Department of Education at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position, specializing in Elementary Education, starting Spring or Fall Semester 2027. The goal of the UT Education Department is to prepare its students to be outstanding teachers within diverse and changing communities through the integration of leadership, scholarship, reflection, and community partnerships. The UT Education Department offers two top-performing pre-service teacher preparation programs with stable enrollment, and faculty in the Department collaborate closely to support student success.   • Teach specialized pedagogy classes in one or more of the following areas: literacy, social studies methods, differentiation, teaching multilingual learners, classroom assessment, curriculum and lesson planning
  • Teach general pedagogy courses for the Elementary Education program.
  • Assist in the development of new curriculum and programs.
  • Assist in meeting requirements of national accreditation, as well as USBE state licensure competencies
  • Work with local school district personnel to ensure the UT Elementary Education program successfully prepares students to teach at the elementary level.
  • Supervise and mentor students in field experience settings.
  • Fulfill faculty responsibilities including holding office hours, advising students, attending faculty and other University meetings, and serving on university, college, and department committees.
  • Provide regular institutional service as outlined in Regent and University policy.
  • Adhere to department, college, and university policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Doctoral degree in Teacher Education, Elementary Education, or related field required. Applicants who are advanced ABD candidates will also be considered if degree completion will occur prior to the hire date.
  • A Deep knowledge of The Science of Reading and expertise in the area of literacy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others to maintain cohesion of the elementary education program.
  • Experience teaching college level literacy courses and/or graduate courses preferred.
  • LETRS training preferred, or willingness to be trained within 60 days of hire.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience teaching students in grades K-6 preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in successful teaching of college students. Finalists will be required to demonstrate competence through a teaching demonstration.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in creative, unique, and effective approaches to teacher education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Candidates must have excellent knowledge and skills with technology, including online instruction.
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins either 1 January or 1 July 2027.

  • Annual salary of $60,000-$65,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
