Position Announcement

The Department of English at Utah Tech University (UT), in thepicturesque red-rock southwestern city of St. George, Utah, invitesapplications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor ofEnglish, with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition andspecializing in interdisciplinary writing, to begin July 1, 2027. We are particularly interested in candidates who draw upon theirdoctoral emphases to collaborate with disciplines across theuniversity (specifically STEM, Business, Education, HealthSciences, and the Arts) in both lower-division composition coursesand our upper-division course offerings. Furthermore, candidateswill have an interest and/or expertise in emerging technologies,including AI and emergent multimodal software with a focus onprofessional development.

The English department offers associate and bachelor’s degrees inEnglish with emphases in Creative Writing, English Education,Literary Studies, and Professional and Technical Writing, as wellas minors in Creative Writing, English Education, GeneralEducation, and Professional and Technical Writing. The EnglishDepartment also offers a Masters of Arts in Technical Writing andDigital Rhetoric. Utah Tech is an open-enrollment institution, andthe English department provides the university with traditionalGeneral Education composition courses as well as corequisite anddevelopmental reading and writing courses designed to help at-riskstudents succeed. Responsibilities

• Teach 24 semester hours in lower division, upper division, andgraduate-level English courses—including traditional composition,corequisite composition, and developmental reading and writing—asneeded by the department.
• Teach lower division and upper division courses in Rhetoric andComposition.
• Lead department efforts in fostering interdisciplinaryrelationships across campus and developing interdisciplinarycurriculum for composition courses with a focus on emergingtechnologies.
• Engage in scholarship relevant to the position at a levelappropriate to a teaching university (both scholarship of discoveryand scholarship of pedagogy are valued at UT).
• Assist in curriculum creation in Rhetoric and Composition.
• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees asassigned and attend departmental, college, and university meetingsas required.
• Work with the department chair, the dean, and other faculty toadvance the university’s mission, including:
  • Work constructively, collaboratively, and collegially withfaculty and staff in the department and across campus.
  • Conduct student assessment.
  • Hold regular office hours.
  • Mentor part-time instructors.
  • Perform service for the college and university.
  • Participate in university and departmental student recruitmentand retention initiatives.
  • Facilitate service learning and engagement with thecommunity.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition (or relatedfield) by August 2027 from a regionally accredited institutionrequired.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Full-time(9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service with payand benefits starting July 1, 2027. Annual salary of$60,000-$63,000,000 depending on qualifications and experience,with additional compensation available for optional summer/overloadteaching.
