Job summary

Rochester Institute of Technology’s dining services organization is seeking a front-line supervisor to manage food preparation, service, and dining operations on campus. You will oversee sanitation, ensure quality customer service, and lead staff in a fast-paced university setting.

The role includes training staff, coordinating with team members on inventories and budgets, and promoting a hospitable campus dining atmosphere. Location is on campus with a schedule reflecting university hours.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of food service production and service techniques and standards.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation and safety standards and protocols.
  • Knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems operation and management.
  • Skill in time management, organization, and multi-tasking in high volume environments.
  • Skill in identifying, evaluating, developing, and implementing solutions to resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to plan, delegate, train, and coach the work of others.

Responsibilities

  • Manage preparation, assembly, and service of various food and dining options in a professional manner.
  • Assist with steaming, frying, reheating, and garnishing food displays as needed.
  • Ensure food service stations are set up, stocked, and maintained; oversee sanitation of facilities and equipment.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure proper working condition.
  • Supervise dining operations to maintain quality customer service.
  • Lead by example when greeting and welcoming students, faculty, staff, and other diners.
  • Promote a warm and hospitable atmosphere.
  • Adhere to university values with every interaction.
  • Manage food and beverage sales and ensure cash handling complies with university procedures in the POS system.
  • Collaborate with team to manage inventories, order supplies, and manage budgets and revenue.
  • Train and coach team members.
  • Encourage and empower staff to maintain positive attitudes and quality service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with team members to manage inventories, order supplies, and manage budgets and revenue.
  • Trains and coaches team members.
  • Encourages and empowers staff to maintain positive attitudes, provide quality customer service, and uphold university values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree in related field.
  • 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Management and People Leadership Level 1 - Functions as a front-line supervisor of a work unit, focusing on supervising and setting day-to-day tasks for staff, maintaining schedules, checking work, and supporting daily services to ensure operational efficiency.

Location: The Commons & College Grind
Work Schedule: 10am-6:30pm Sun-Thurs, OFF Fri/Sat Work schedule may need to fluctuate based on University-wide events, and academic breaks.
